Fylte – the magnetic bulb that floats like magic

Flyte in use

When you think of a light bulb, it’s a glass fixture that you screw in to make it work. It doesn’t matter if it’s a lamp or ceiling fixture, that’s how they work. The Flyte is a levitating light bulb that defies conventional light bulb wisdom, no attachments required.

We’ve seen other things levitate, like speakers, but this light bulb may be a first. It is a functioning light bulb, as in, it gives off light while floating. No cords attached. It hovers over the base, spinning gently and can be turned on with a tap to the base. The base itself is wooden.

Flyte alone

For full disclosure, the light that it gives off isn’t very bright, you can’t light an entire room with just one of them. This is more of a fixture, for decorative purposes but what a statement it makes! It uses LED lights and will last for about 50K hours of use. Though not a very practical choice in lamps, it really is quite cool. The Flyte comes with various wood finishes as well as bulb metallic. The Flyte is $349.
