Gadget weary?

Hmm…Aunty reports that the Gadget Shop has just gone into administration. Have gadgets jumped the shark? Should the Ferret move on to covering gardening tips? What is a garden anyway?

  • not surprised – it has been selling crap for a while now. Gardening gadgets would be a good topic – I love gardening gadgets. (I have a great rhubarb forcer)

  • Rhubarb forcer? I don’t want to know. I really don’t. :-)

  • I think there should be more gadget cross-pollenization and the more imaginative gadget blogs (like this one)could effect this. We need gardening gadgets, medical gadgets, household gadgets, cooking gadgets, gadgets for auto mechanics, gadgets for manufacturers, etc. etc. With that kind of a mix we would have more “ah ha” moments where a gadgeteer in one field recognizes a gadget from another as useful in a new environment in new ways. This would be a greater editing challenge and would threaten to atomize the readership but I think the rewards would be greater, particularly if the cross-pollenization goals are explained well up front.

The field will eventually meet saturation if only communications, computer, entertainment, consumer gadgets are covered.

This was just a spontaneous brain-spasm, I have not thought out all the ramifications…

  • Hmm…totally interesting points Andi as ever. I agree that the current focus on the tech side of things has got to widen out at some point to satisfy the later adopters. Interesting…
