Gatefeeder leaves no cat behind

Those of you who own multiple cats know that trying to dish out enough food for all of the cats can be difficult. Not only are they trying to tear you apart for not moving fast enough once they’ve figured out what you’re up to, but they also don’t want to share with each other. If one of your cats has a special dietary restriction, or needs medicine, it’s tough to separate their food from the rest.

The Gatefeeder is a rather high-tech way of making sure that the right cat is going to get the correct portion and type of food or medication that they need. This is a feeder that can hold a weekend’s worth of food, and will only allow a cat with the correct RFID tag past its door. It will only be opened if the correct key is in in close contact to the food. My main concerns would be the cat’s head getting stuck, or sitting nearby and letting the other kitties in, but those seems to have been tried and true by the makers of this product (answered in the FAQ). One of these things is going to cost you $249 though, so it’s really pointless to get unless you’re one of those crazed cat people with tons of cats that have health problems. Although, if you are that person, you’re probably not going to have the funds to get multiples of these as it’s only recommended for up to two cats at maximum.

  • If I was rich enough to buy a squillion of these things for a houseful of cats, I would rather give a uni student wages to come and feed them – and it would teach them evasive skills at the same time.
