GoKey – a charger, sync cable, phone locator, memory stick and remote control all on your keyring

We don’t often do crowdfunding posts here, for reasons we’ve explained before, but this fully funded gadget caught our eye because it’s a real cool piece of work. The developers have basically looked at just about all the major accessories you get for smartphones and crammed them into one keychain device. Very smooth.

The GoKey is a small keychain friendly device which combines a charger (which will give you an extra 2 hours of juice for your phone), a sync cable for transferring data, a Bluetooth locator to locate your phone or keys if they are left behind or mislaid, a memory stick with up to 32GB of storage and a remote control for taking photos or video, controlling your music player and more.

As if that wasn’t enough, it also looks like it’s going to be small enough to be practical in your pocket – i.e. no pocket bulge – and even better, prices will start at a very reasonable $69 retail when it launches in January of next year. Of course these shipping dates on crowdfunding projects are notorious for not hitting their target, so bear that in mind if you’re interested in the thing.

The device has currently got six days left to go on its project page , and has totally blown through its goal of $40K. It now sits on $821,000. Yeah that’s a solid result. We’ll wait and see how the final product turns out, but if it’s as cool as the demos we’re thinking this could be a massive success around the world. There are versions for both iPhone and Android coming down the pipe at launch. One to watch!
