Google Sites – new Google collaboration tool promises amazing feature set

So there’s a new Google application due next year called Google Sites, which will be an extended amalgam of the Google Pages web site creator and JotSpot, the wiki app that Google bought a while back. This is interesting from a lot of angles, not least of which is the fact that it potentially introduces real Web 2.0 user generated functionality to business applications properly for the first time ever. One thing I will add is that JotSpot was the only wiki based web application which impressed me within seconds of starting to use it. And it’s the only one I would have paid money to subscribe to.

If Google puts this package together properly, it could turn the world of online business applications on its head big time. Intranet, extranet, wiki, collaborative project management all done online (and off with Gears?) and with that extra Google search sauce? Wow!

Google Sites: Scheduled to be launched sometime next year (2008), Google Sites will expand upon the Google Page Creator already offered within Apps. Based on JotSpot collaboration tools, Sites will allow business to set up intranets, project management tracking, customer extranets, and any number of custom sites based on multi-user collaboration. [UPDATE] I don’t recall wikis being mentioned specifically but I assume they are part of the plan.

  • I don’t much care about the news, but I love the logo – which, interestingly enough, was different in the RSS feed.

  • Heh, yeah I suddenly got inspiration post publication. :-) Hey, and the news ain’t bad, you wait…. :-)
