Hacked wireless doorbell lets you know when your mail has arrived

While email seems to be one of the primary ways to communicate with people these days, snail mail still has its place. Unfortunately that place is outside in a mailbox, which you have to go and check. And there’s nothing quite like bundling up and going out into cold, only to find that there’s no mail. Then you have to figure out if the mailman hasn’t been to your house yet, or if there was just no mail for you today.

One hacker decided to solve this problem by rigging a cheap wireless doorbell system to alert him when the mail has arrived. The relatively simple hack involved some small modifications to extend the trigger for the doorbell, and to make an LED blink on the base station until a separate button is pressed.
