Camcorders come in all shapes and sizes, and with the improvement in storage and miniaturization most of these sizes are getting smaller. At the same time the resolution is getting higher. We’re waiting for the day when you can get a full 4K, IMAX, panoramic ultra high resolution recorder which is the size of your thumbnail. You just wait, it’s coming.
In the meantime, we’re rather taken by this HDMI Video Pen 2, which delivers full 1080p video resolution in a device which is no bigger than a whiteboard marker. The product records onto microSD cards, and can be hooked up directly into your television via the integrated HDMI socket, which has got to make for some fun evenings at home.
It supports up to 32GB of microSD card, records for 150 minutes per 3 hour charge and saves video in .mov (Quicktime) format. Of course this kind of tiny camcorder is never going to compete in low light with a decent lens of a full size unit, but for ordinary day to day recording it’s probably a great alternative to dragging your digicam along every time. Priced at $155.
