Hemp Cotton – jean company makes cotton like material from hemp

Hemp is a wonder crop. It can be used for all types of things, fiber, fuel, feed, it’s just great. And now it is looking to overtake the cotton industry. Iconic denim company Levi Strauss & Co has found a way to manufacture hemp to mimic cotton.

Cotton is not great environmentally. It takes a ton of water to process as well as chemicals. Hemp uses a good deal less of these things to achieve similar results. So really a large win on that. They’re still perfecting the process but they hope to have 100% hemp products in five years.

This would be a far more sustainable option and jeans are just a start. If this process can replace traditional cotton, it can go a long way to cutting down the waste in textile manufacture. Though still very new, it is a promising prospect.
