Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Game – 30th anniversary edition now available for free

Woo-hoo, the BBC has just released a free online 30th anniversary edition of the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Game and it is v. good. For those living under a rock for the past few decades, the radio play and book from the late Douglas Adams was an awesome combination of wacky and funny, with weird thrown in, and the game was one of the most popular text adventures of its time.

No Sam, there’s no fancy graphics, it’s all text driven, but once you get over the shock you might find that it’s actually a really fun way to play a game, with all the exciting stuff happening in your imagination, not on screen. Actually there are some graphics, crude but nonetheless effective in showing you your moves as they happen.

You enter all commands via the keyboard though, which means that if you want to move along at a pace, you’ll have to learn how to type, or at least hunt and peck fast. It’s extremely possible that this game and others like it, helped a whole generation of dolphins people learn to type in double quick time back in the day.

Oh and did we mention it’s pretty difficult to play? Oh and read the book first, it’s awesome.
