Hive – grow you own meal(worms)

hive-in-use

So we’re all in agreement that sustainable living is better living, right? I don’t think I have to convince anyone of that or that growing your own food is a grand idea in the long run. That being said, the Hive might be a hard sell as a new way of life, it being, after all, an indoor grow kit for edible bugs. Mealworms to be exact. For, you know, salad and stuff.

Now, people around the world eat insects. They are a stable food source of in a variety of cultures. That being said, they’re not so common in America and Europe, however, they are low cost and provide a good deal of nutrients making them an excellent alternative food source. With the Hive you can grow you own mealworms, right in your home or office.

You can grow up to 500 grams of mealworms weekly with the Hive system, all of which are totally edible. You likely don’t know how to prepare them so you can even purchase a handy cookbook to give you some idea of how to make your worms in a variety of styles. If you want to start your own farm, you can get Hive for $649.
