HOSPI-R Drug Delivery Robot – Is a bedside manner programmed in?

HOSPI-R Drug Delivery Robot

The hardest working people in the hospital are the nurses, who are constantly delivering meds, updating charts, talking with hospital visitors, assisting doctors, and giving shots, along with a ton more of work that gets done behind the scenes. I get tired just from thinking about. However, one of those previously mentioned duties might get passed down to the newest member of the medical team.

According to GizMag, the HOSPI-R Drug Delivery Robot is already available in Japan but other countries will have to wait a bit before they can hop onto the automated bandwagon.

In 2010, a major complaint shared by nurses and pharmacists was that their work was constantly being interrupted whenever drugs had to be delivered. With HOSPI-R now being available for the public, after spending two years in the experimental phase, that complaint could become a thing of the past.

An autonomous navigation system allows the robot to navigate the hallways and rooms of a hospital with the aid of onboard sensors, which automatically adjust for things like wheelchair-bound patients in the programmed path, and special security features prevent tampering, damage, and theft of the drugs and samples stored inside the robot.

Panasonic hasn’t released any information on pricing, saying it depends on the needs of each facility, but I’m sure the nurses who work at busy hospitals would agree the robots will be worth every penny.
