How Many Trees? – to get the most benefit against emissions

One of the ways that we can capture carbon from the air is by planting more trees. They do the job naturally all while giving us delicious oxygen. They’re great! It’s not new information that planting trees will help but many people have asked, how many do we need? Well, turns out the answer is, kind of a lot.

To get the most impact, we need 1.6 billion hectares of tree coverage new research has predicted. This is on top of the tree coverage that we already have. The problem with planting trees though is that they take some time to grow, as they are living things. Once they have matured, they should be able sequester a great deal of carbon.

The radical number has it’s detractors, that’s a lot of trees. They can also be a nuisance if they are not the right type of trees for the location. Still, in general, you can’t go wrong with planting a tree and the sooner, the better.
