How Secure Is My Password?

When it comes to online security, having a strong password cannot be stressed enough. A simple name or birthday might have been acceptable back in the 90’s (my first Hotmail account allowed a 4-digit password) but these days anything less than 8, with a mix of letters, numbers and non-alphanumeric characters is just asking for trouble. Curious how long your password would stack up against a hacker using a brute force attack? There’s a site for that.

Obviously this site just gives you an estimation, as we can’t gauge exactly what method a hacker might be using, or how powerful their computer is. However, it gives you an idea of just how insecure that creative 6-digit password containing lowercase letters and numbers really is. Of course, the one thing I can’t stress enough is that it takes a hacker almost no time if you’ve written your password down and taped it to your keyboard. Please don’t do that.
