This brand new Huawei U8150 Android cell phone is scheduled to arrive on shelves ‘real soon now'(tm), and what makes it interesting is the fact that it’s slated as a low end handset, while at the same time running the latest greatest Android 2.2 operating system.
We’re fans of the Huawei brand, the products tend to be well built and reliable, and priced very competitively. The Huawei built T-Mobile Pulse remains one of our favourite low cost phones, and this new product looks like it’s going to up the ante in this budget market segment considerably.
It’s all about consumer perception isn’t it? If the product arrives at a sub £80/$100.00 price point as a replacement for the Pulse Mini or similar, then it’s going to impress a lot of prospective purchasers as they browse the options. You can almost hear the salesman pimp up the latest Android features (instant tethering/modem feature, sir? No problem). Let’s just hope they’ve improved the lousy camera. More here.
Inside, the U8150 packs a 528MHz processor, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM and an accelerometer. For connectivity, there’re 7.2Mbps HSDPA, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n (also acts as a Wi-Fi router), Bluetooth and a micro-USB port. The U8150 will also support microSD cards up to 32GB in capacity, while the 1,200mAH battery should keep things chugging along fine.
