Inventables is a new web store which is heaven, absolute heaven, for anyone with an ounce of creative inventorship in their blood. The site features a huge range of unusual and downright fascinating materials, which with a little imagination could transform your humble bedroom into a multi-million dollar business.
Of course it’s never that simple is it, but even so I challenge anyone not to be inspired by products such as ‘hand moldable plastic’ or ‘powerless illuminating plastic’ or even – my fave – ‘temperature sensitive flexible sheets’. It’s kind of Radio Shack for the modern age, and I’ll be spending a huge amount of my dreaming hours browsing the catalogue and lamenting my bank balance at various intervals.
Nothing in the shop is cheap of course, but the site is excellently designed, with a powerful search engine, example applications for each material and a set of ‘also viewed’ thumbnails to add more inspiration to your desire. I cannot think of a single thing I would change on this wondrous emporium, except perhaps to offer us mere mortals help videos of successful uses of the products on display. Oh science, how art thee made mighty. [Via]
We sell materials that designers, artists, and inventors use to develop new products and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
