Iogear USB 3 Universal Docking Station – turn your tablet into a desktop PC with a few cables

The good folk at Iogear woke up last week and decided on a brainwave. You see it’s clear that we’re all rather depressed because our tablet computers are too portable. What we all really yearn for is some way to convert these slim, cool tools into deskbound monsters which provide no real advantage at all.

Ta-da. Presenting the Iogear USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station. Just throw in your choice of suitable cables and you’ll instantly have a tablet pretending to be an old fashioned desktop computer. Without the power. Or the ability to run really punchy desktop games or apps at full resolution. But apart from that, golden.

Actually we’re being a little unfair, because the device does play with laptops and ultrabooks as well, so it’s not just tablets. But the fact is that they’re marketing it to tablet owners too. For the record, the thing features 6 USB ports, dual monitor support (including HDMI), mic and speaker connections and a gigabit Ethernet port. Just plug in one USB cable and you’re good to go. Priced at $149.95.

  • Intriguing, albeit a bit pricier than I would have hoped. I wonder if supports MacBook Pros with Bootcamp switching back and forth between Windows and OS X?

    • Mmm…those are questions beyond my pay grade. :)
