Jarte is a new free word-processing program which uses WordPad as its engine and throws in a bunch of useful and cool features. The idea of using WordPad is not as naff as it sounds, since it means that most of the heavy lifting has already been done, and the developers can focus on adding in cool things like word count, tabbed documents and integrated spell check and thesaurus. Oh and it starts up really quickly!
It’s definitely very usable, and I have now added it to my toolbox. Microsoft Word is increasingly becoming a little superfluous, and in fact I’m only really using it for structured or complex layout pages where I need a more desktop publisher look. Interesting.
Jarte is a WordPad based, FREE word processor whose unique interface will make you feel like you are piloting a swift, nimble yacht by comparison. Although Jarte doesn’t look anything like the office word processor you are used to, it can handle your word processing tasks with aplomb. If this sounds like the kind of word processor you are looking for then maybe you owe it to yourself to give Jarte a try.
