Jetpatcher- the one man pothole fixer

Jetpatcher

It used to take a team of men a long time to fix potholes. Not any more. The Jetpatcher is a one man (plus driver) pothole fixing machine, which can repair a hole in about five minutes, at a cost of some £60.00. The machine can apparently fix hundreds of holes every week. Cue Beatles song.

This kind of speed tech is going to be increasingly useful if we keep suffering freezing winters and ice damage to roads, which means that the £140,000 truck could become very popular indeed. [Via]

Jetpatcher’s road repair machines are fully self contained and carry all the necessary equipment and materials to repair road defects in rural and urban areas. The process is carried out by a team of 2 – driver and operator.

  • …. four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire. And though the holes were rather small …

  • Most Scottish councils have been using these for a number of years. Most excellent invention, and much needed in Englandshireton at the moment.

  • Typical government job. Why can't the guy fixing the pothole also drive?

    • The process requires the driver and operator to work at the same time, as the machine needs to move forwards and backwards at the same time as the material is being laid!!

  • you guys enjoy the technology yes but will suffer the social side effect: many will be unemployed, and what will they do to get rid of that free time or to make a paycheck. Unless there is a system to make the jobless work in certain other jobs (i.e farming, manufacturing or whatever job), this machine should not be used in general except for emergency.

    • I understand the concern but in many authorities around the U.K have major issues with drainage on roads, which cause the road deteriation in the first place. Many of these authorities that use the Jetpatcher to repair the roads utalise the old council pathing gang to rectify the drainage issues. Prior to the jetpatcher many of the authorities did not have the time or budget to address this issue so in the long run the local communities will be better off.
