Just Delete Me – bookmark this great collection of direct links to delete your unwanted web accounts

If you’ve ever tried closing an online account you own, you’ll know just how much fun it can be trying to locate the actual delete page. I’ve spent many a happy hour trying to shut down some services, especially with companies who not only bury them 10 menus deep, but won’t even give clues as to where to start looking. Well now there’s an easier way, and it’s a must-have bookmark.

Just Delete Me is a simple but brilliant idea. It’s basically just a collection of direct links to a variety of the major online services, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Google etc, which lead directly – without passing Go – to the account closure page.

Some services, like Netflix, force you to jump through a few customer services hoops in order to cancel your account, but even then, the link leads directly to their customer service account closure page, so it’s a real time saver. This is a terrific idea and one we hope really catches on. It’s not that we don’t like online services (even though we no longer trust them at all since the NSA disclosures), it’s just that we think it should be just as easy to leave a service as it is to join up.

Oh and one very cool thing is the fact that the color of the box border indicates how difficult it is to close an account with a service, which in itself is great info. Skype looks to be the hardest…apparently you have to visit their offices in person with your great-grandparents, plus driving licenses in order to cut loose. Or something.
