It’s all very well and good carrying around large amounts of data on our mobile phones, but the problem comes when we want to transfer it easily and quickly between phones, computers and other devices. Small files are fine, but when it comes to huge video files, or even lots of images or music tracks, it can be a real pain. And don’t even start us off about the slow speed of Bluetooth.
But now there’s a cool new tool which makes the whole process much easier. The Kingston Data Traveler Micro Duo is a dinky little keychain device which comes with two USB plugs and on-board storage of varying sizes. The units can hold up to 32GB of data (we tested out the 16GB version) but they all share the same simple form factor.
As you’ll see from our short video review below, transferring data is beautifully easy. Just plug the relevant end into your phone or other microUSB device, transfer over your files using any standard file transfer app, and then plug the Micro Duo into the recipient unit, typically a laptop or tablet or even another phone.
It’s not the fastest transfer in the world, but you’ll find it’s 10 x faster (and more reliable!) than Bluetooth transfers, which is the typical way most people move stuff around from phone to phone. It’s also incredibly convenient, since you can carry it around all the time on your keychain for all those little data emergencies. The product is priced at $7.95 for the 16GB version (£6.88 in the U.K).
