Kisai Intoxicated – your watch…the breathalyzer

If ever there was a marriage made in heaven, it’s the one between technology and safety. We now routinely rely on more tech to keep us safe than ever before, from automatic motion detection sensors to infra-red vision which helps drivers avoid critters late at night.

The Kisai Intoxicated is the latest example of the genre. Part watch, part breathalyzer, this handsome digital dandy contains a blood alcohol content (BAC) sensor. Pop open the hatch on the side of the timepiece, blow into the nozzle for 5 seconds and the watch will give a reading of whether it’s safe for you to drive or not.

A green display means you’re sober, yellow urges caution and red means, hand the keys over to your mate and call a cab. We love the idea that there’s also a ‘sobriety game’ built in to the device, in which you have to get the timing right on a wavering line to demonstrate whether you’re over the top or not. Kind of equivalent to walking straight along the white line in front of the traffic cop.

As with all Kisai watches, you’ll either love or hate the fact that reading the time is part eyesight, part guesswork, but once you’re used to the quirky digital display it’s probably not that bad. Put it this way, we’ve seen worse.

The watch uses a rechargeable battery which takes 3 hours to charge to full capacity via a USB cable and is water resistant to 3ATM. Priced at $99.00 / £63.73.
