Electric power is getting into everything nowadays, not just cars, planes and skateboards but also more exotic things like boats and ships. It should come as no surprise then, to find out that some enterprising developers at a German company have come up with an electric surfboard.
The Lampuga Electric Jet Surfboard is a high tech marriage between a standard surfboard and a jet ski, only using electric power not conventional fuels. The idea of squeezing an electric jet propulsion unit into something as skinny as a surfboard is actually quite crazy, but these guys seem to have done it.
Whether purists will find it worthwhile or not, those weekend sea creatures who just want to frolic about on the waves should get a kick out of the specs. The 39 kgs board is powered by a 15 HP electric jet engine, which will propel the craft at speeds up to 32 mph for a range of around 12 miles or 35 minutes, whichever comes first.
Recharging will take 2 hours with a standard charger, or 1 hour if a high power charger option is used. Just enough time to grab a sandwich and dry off or warm up a bit. It comes with an anti-slip surface and a safety cut-off mechanism built in, and judging by the videos looks to be a lot of fun. Not so much fun is the 15,400 Euro price tag. But hey, what price seaside frolics eh?
