The Air Pump Lamp. Turn on the light and increase brightness by ‘pumping it up with air’. Well not really, symbolically, you get the idea. Very clever. Very Manhattan.
Rather than flipping a switch, air is pumped into the lamp. As more air fills the lamp more of the fluorescent bulb is revealed. The resulting impression is that of being able to fill a room with light by simply moving air. Releasing a valve allows air to escape and lowers the bulb back into the tube.
