Liquid Air – a new renewable energy source

Liquid Air sounds like the name of an anime about some sort of dystopian future but it’s not. It’s actually a new form of energy that may help us push down emissions. The unique process was thought up by a backyard inventor but it’s going to be put into practice with its own power plant going forward.

The process is fairly simple. Off peak electricity is used to compress and cool air inside of a tank until it becomes a liquid. During times of high demand, this is heated up, turns back into a gas and runs a turbine that creates more electricity.

It has been tested on a small scale but will be put into practice with a 50MW plant in the north of England. It will likely only be used as backup power during those times where a lot of energy is being used in the area. Is this system work not only will it be a renewable source of power but it will help avoid having to mine for material and manufacture batteries, thus saving more emissions
