London Plane Trees On Their Way Out – Australia is replacing them with climate hardy trees

The ubiquitous London plane tree is going to start disappearing from Australian cities as the country makes a move to plant and encourage more species that are hardier to climate change. Although this is an isolated event, the replacing of trees we mean, more locations may find themselves doing the same.

It’s important to note that these trees are being replaced in urban landscapes, they are not entering into rural areas and planting trees. The London planes are themselves transplants and although some people think they are lovely, they also come with a host of issues.

They have been blamed for hay fever and allergies and although these claims are unfounded, they do shed fine hairs that are irritating to skin. They also get absolutely everywhere. In any case, the new trees will help to provide shade and act as carbon sinks for the urban centers.
