Lowering Flight Emissions – one simple change could make a huge difference

Airline travel has come under harsh criticism for the amount of emissions that it causes for what is in many cases a luxury choice. New research may have landed on a solution for lowering those numbers so that flying has less of a footprint. Just by changing the height of flights.

Researchers discovered that by changing the height planes fly at, 2,000 feet higher or lower than what they traditionally do, they can lower emissions significantly. This slight change could make a real difference in the amount of emissions created by the travel choice.

Every flight would not have to make this change. Part of the research is identifying which flights would benefit most from the adjustment. As it turns out, only certain flights cause the bulk of emissions so targeting these is the top priority.
