Mail A Spud – no box, no envelope, just a potato and some stamps

We’ve featured some pretty weird things here over the decades, but boy this one really stands up there with the best. The new Mail A Spud service offers to send a potato to anyone in the U.S of A, for just $9.99. We’re not talking prime edible foodstuffs here, no fancy packaging or anything. Just a potato. Or potatoe. Spud.

We’re not given any reasonable explanation for the service, and we don’t believe it’s because of a national shortage or anything. Last time we looked there also wasn’t a nutritional crisis in the nation which would cause such a need. But there you have it. A spud.

We’re wondering how the recipients will feel on receiving this item in their mail box? Or if they receive it at work, on their desk, or handed to them by a puzzled mail room operative? Will there be smirks? Frowns? Anger? Jollity? We need answers. In the meantime we’re going to leave you with the corporate video, and urge you to order quickly before they run out. Of potatoes.

Sheesh, why do we have to write this stuff? No really!

  • Ditch the bare-back potato and get more civilized and surprising options at We ship hundreds of potatoes every month and so many folks want a the big reveal that comes with an envelope or better yet… a boxed potato.
