What do you do when you need to make a really loud and annoying sound to get someone’s attention? Two of the easiest things that come to mind are an air horn and a vuvuzela. The problem with the former is that they only last for so long before needing refilled. And after last year’s World Cup, I don’t think anyone wants to hear a vuvuzela again. So what other options do you have? Why not build your own fog horn?

Fog horns have a nice deep sound that, while it will certainly direct attention to you, it isn’t nearly as irritating as the other options listed above. The best part is that they are actually quite easy to make. One Instructables user constructed one from a hand pump, sink waste trap and a rubber glove. What’s fun is that you can add different pipes to create different sounds, as well. It might not be the most useful object in the world, but at least you’ll always have a fog horn on hand.
