Marrs M1 Electric Bicycle – the wild hog e-bike for tree fellers, not huggers

The electric bicycle market is growing apace, and part of that involves a splintering into distinct sales segments. At one end of the scale there’s the truckloads of cheap, clunky Chinese electric bicycles, sold on price and basic functionality. They’re utilitarian all right, but hardly something you’d call a work of art. At the other end you’ll find real labors of love, crafted to deliver more than just a ride. But at a price.

The Marrs M1 is at the MOMO end of the scale, a classy, quirky looking electric cruiser which clearly comes from a tradition where two wheeled transport is a badge, not just a vehicle. Ask Harley-D about all that.

Low slung, laid back and just a touch menacing, the bike features a 700W brushless electric motor, a 15Ah Lithium battery stored in the central housing, and massive tires to give it that motorbike look. The result of all this art vs science is a whopping 140 pound weight and a top speed of just 20mph. You will NOT want to pedal this thing home if you run out of battery power, that’s for certain.

The price for the e-bike a la mode is an electrifying $7,500 which will deliver less than 20 miles range between charges. We’re not sure whether you couldn’t pick up a secondhand Prius for not much more than that by now. Anyway, if you’re into eco products as artworks, or your name’s George Clooney, this will probably be right up your street. Expected to arrive for sale any time now. More info here.
