Max Tabs – a Firefox tabs cop which stops you wasting time [Freeware]

One common problem when working with the web are the many distractions that take away your focus. There’s always the possibility of wandering off to Facebook instead of writing that paper, or reading gossip instead of doing actual research. Hey, maybe you’re even procrastinating by reading this? If so, tsk…

To help with this problem, a Firefox add-on called Max Tabs allows you to limit the number of open tabs you have within the browser. After installing the free add-on, you can go to the Add-0n management page and click on Options for Max Tabs. Here you can specify how many tabs you want open at one time. The default is at 10, but you can change that to any number — hopefully lower.

When you reach the maximum number of tabs, a pop up message appears on the bottom right to tell you that – there are no more new tabs for you!

The add-on is such a simple solution to a complicated problem, and should be a small but significant step towards more productive time spent on the web. Unfortunately it doesn’t limit new windows — which should be added as a cool feature to make sure you don’t cheat.
