If you were a kid in the 90s, one of your earliest interactions with a computer was likely with the Microsoft Paint program that came bundled with the operating systems. Well, say goodbye because the old feature will be discontinued come this fall.
The ubiquitous program has been around since 1985 and although not nearly as robust for art applications as something like PhotoShop, this little program provided hours of fun for the budding computer users of yesteryear. It was also a work safe program on which no doubt many memes were made to share with friends.
Now it’s all going away. Microsoft will still offer Paint 3D, which is a very different program that has some 2D tools but is not the software we all grew up with. Rest in peace paint. Like many outdated programs before, we know for whom the bells tolls, it tolls for thee.

This is the program that I use to do all the photo editing for the site :) Except for this one, I did that in MS Paint.
Paint.net is amazing. Great functionality and easy to use. I have recommended it in some of our past articles for image editing.
