Getting a flat tire is really awful. Finding out one of your wheels has given up the ghost can make you late or even worse, leave you totally stranded. Would be great if you could slap a band aid on it and go! Well thanks to some new research, that might be a reality. And bonus, it can be achieved with recycled materials.
This new sort of rubber is made from sulfur, canola oil and another chemical compound. Mixing them together creates a sustainable rubber that has one other strange property. When a catalyst is slathered on, it becomes an adhesive.
It can bond to itself and this can be used to create patches that are ready to roll in a matter of minutes. Pretty neat. This can keep tires on the road longer and when they’re all worn out, the end product will be easier to recycle. Check out the video for more information.
