MP3 Tunes in.

Mp3tunes

My old boss Michael Robertson of MP3.com fame has just launched his latest venture, created with the  assistance of that well known rebel coder DVD Jon Johansen. The MP3 Tunes Locker service is an online locker which lets you upload, store and play your music tracks from any Web enabled device. The free service offers upload and stream at 56K quality, the $39.95 a year version gives unlimited storage, sync from device to device and streams at 128K. Nothing new here, perhaps, except the fact that it apparently works seamlessly with iTunes.

Just to make it clear, this is not the same as MyMP3.com which got Michael sued the last time, because in this case you have to upload the actual tracks that you own. The former service allowed you to stream music immediately after‘proving’ you owned the CD by putting it in your CD drive to be verified – no uploading needed. Completely different, but still an interesting move. Oh, and the company claims that you can typically upload 200–300 songs an hour.
