Apparently if you click on Start – Run and type in this command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%infmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

…you can remove MSN Messenger from your Windows computer once and for all. Make sure you exit Messenger first, and I haven’t tried this yet, so the usual caveats apply. Here’s the Microsoft alternative.
