Music Video Genome delivers personalized music television

musicvideogenome

The gradual shift from the television to the computer continues apace, and almost every month we benefit from the launch of one new service or another which helps this process along. The cord-cutters – those who make the final jump away from cable or terrestrial TV to Internet based programming – are the early beneficiaries of all of this, but sooner or later we’ll all be consuming our entertainment down fat pipes. Or is that phat pipes?

A new service called Music Video Genome offers a clever twist on the usual YouTube aggregation engine, by offering to collate video material for us based on our taste in music. The categorization is rather crude at the moment, just enter in your favorite artist and press the Watch button, but it’s easy to see this type of application spreading to more granular choices.

The site does seem to record your likes as you go along which should help to improve the delivery of videos as it learns about you, but what we’d really like to see is one of these sites which delivered a whole range of programming, from stand up comedy to period drama, and which learned from our habits which things we’d probably like to see next (or record for later).

Anyway for now this is a good enough start.
