MyPermissions Cleaner – track which apps can access your information

mypermissions_main

If you’ve been using web and mobile apps for some time now, chances are you’ve given most of them permission to access your email information and other private data on your Gmail or Facebook accounts. The problem is remembering which service has access to which accounts, especially if you want to tidy up and/or stop old services for security purposes.

Basically tracking these app permissions can be a tedious task. Fortunately, a Firefox add-on called MyPermissions Cleaner (also available for iOS and Android) can do that for you. You’ll need to restart after downloading the free add-on. When you restart, the browser will automatically bring you to the My Permissions page where it will either show you app permissions for web services like Gmail, Yahoo, Facebook. This is only if you’re already logged in to these services.

If you’re not logged in, there will be a prompt for you to enter your login credentials for each web service. When you’re logged in, a dashboard will appear to show you how many apps are connected with each web service and what kind of permissions you’ve given them. From here, you can simply click on “Edit” and either click “Revoke” to delete the app, or “Trust” to leave it installed.

Note that revoking permissions will disconnect the app from the web service. In most cases, you can log in directly to the web service and reconnect it from there. MyPermissions Cleaner is also available for iOS and Android.
