Nanocrowd – crowdsourced movie recomendations

Nanocrowd1

Nanocrowd is a new crowd powered movie finding service which looks very cool indeed. Enter in your favourite film, and the service will give you a choice of similar titles to watch. The key feature of the service lies in the way they link the movies together, they basically trawl the web for user comments, abstract the key words and use them to build a ratings system to lump titles together in similar groups.

What makes this a service to watch, though, is the range of future features that are in the pipeline. The Netflix tie-in will let you add movies to your queue based on Nanocrowd results, and eventually they plan to deliver a recommendation system which will suggest titles automatically based on what you like. It’s this sort of stuff that really could make for a cool experience.

I’d like to see a service that learned what you liked and then automatically added recommended movies to either a Netflix queue or to your choice of online video on demand services like Sky Movies et al. Now that would be cool. For now though, this is a nice start.

Our approach is new and different. We write magical search algorithms that interpret comments people like you have written about movies. No editors. No movie critics. We analyze the millions of viewer comments from all over the Web to gain exciting insights into what movies are really about and what people think of them. Based on those insights, we find movies that you’d like to watch…We’ll be updating our movie list and adding new features like searching by nanogenre words, searching by actors, directors, writers, and searching based on your Netflix queue.
