National Nature Diary – help record the first day of spring in the UK

Spring is upon us (even if some parts of the world are still seeing snow) and the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council is asking the people of their fine land to capture this wondrous event in words and send it in. People all over the UK can contribute the impressions of spring to the national nature diary on March 21.

This is a wonderful crowdsourcing project meant to give everyone a shot at nature writing as well as chronicle the varied look and feel of the season across the country. Authors can focus on whatever they like about the spring. The sky, the flowers, the still clinging snow. Whatever captures your fancy.

This is also, in a way, an effort to document the changing weather patterns due to climate change. Art has played an important role in informing us as to how the world looked in felt in the past and this would be no different. Entries can be up to 150 words and submitted here.
