New light technology shows promise to kill MRSA and other superbugs

HINS-Light technology 1

Dangerous superbugs like MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and the somewhat lesser known bacterium Clostridium difficile (C diff) – both of which are antibiotic resistant and on the increase in hospitals -may be about to meet their match.

HINS-Light technology 2

A new lighting technology called the HINS-light environmental decontamination system (EDS) has been developed. This lighting system decontaminates the air and exposed surfaces, bathing them in a narrow spectrum of visible-light wavelengths.

HINS-Light technology 3

In clinical trials held in Glasgow, Scotland showed that the HINS-light system produced significant reductions of bacterial pathogens in a hospital environment while being harmless to humans. This is a huge step forward towards hospitals being able to prevent the spread of infection.

Developed in the University of Strathclyde’s Robertson Trust Laboratory for Electronic Sterilization Technologies (ROLEST), the HINS-light is a deep violet color. Researchers have also developed a warm white light version that uses LEDs that can be used alongside standard hospital lighting, continuously disinfecting wards and isolation rooms. This is definitely exciting news to keep an eye on though there’s no word yet as to when this technology will begin making it into practical use.

  • For years wrestlers and fighters have been using a 100% natural soap with active ingredients that have been clinically proven to be effective against Ringworm, Herpes, Impetigo, Staph, MRSA, Jock Itch and Athlete's Foot. It is called Defense Soap. Defense Soap is no longer just for combat athletes.
