Nissan has found a way to make use of old EV batteries

There are many folks who are against battery-powered cars, but it’s not because they have no love for the environment. The problem is when electric car batteries have worn down, what should we do with them?

It wouldn’t make much sense to throw them in the dump because that’s fighting against the planet right there. However, what if we could use these batteries for lesser means, you know, something along the lines of powering a camping trailer.

That’s exactly what Nissan did with the Opus camping trailer. The company took old lithium-ion battery cells from the first generation Nissan branded electric vehicles, and stuffed them into a cube inside of the Opus.

We understand this solution is called the Nissan ROAM, and if done well, it could pop up outside of vehicles in the distant future.

The cells can store up to 700Wh of electricity, and should the driver combine this with a 400W solar panel, then the Opus camping trailer could provide power for up to seven days.

ROAM does sound impressive, but at the moment, Nissan has no plans to put it into production.
