No More Cracked Screens – new research finds better, stronger mobile screen material

How many of you are reading this with a phone that has a screen covered in cracks? Of better yet, how many of you have a phone covered in cracks in general? It’s a common feature in modern life but it may become a relic of the past. Researchers have a lead on making a stronger, better screen for everyone.

Our phones are mostly silicone which is expensive and fragile but it has properties that we can utilize in our mobile technology. The new screen solution is made from not one mineral but three. They are made from layering hexagonal boron nitride, graphene, and Buckminsterfullerene better known as bucky-ball to make a more crack resistant screen.

The hope is that new screen will not only hold up better to abuse but will also be more energy efficient over all as it is an excellent conductor of electricity. Although this material is similar to silicone it is on the whole superior to it. This isn’t on the market yet but if they can work out all the kinks, you might not have to replace your screen ever again.
