We’ve all heard of virtual reality before, but it seems to be a laughable subject anymore. Not because it’s a silly subject, just that no one has been successfully able to pull it off yet. There’s another claim for “truly immersive virtual reality”, and it actually seems kind of exciting.
It’s been named the Oculus Rift, and it’s setting its expectations pretty high. Most virtual reality has only shown you the screen, and tried to move whenever you move your head, but it always ended up being laggy, or fizzing out altogether. It’s looking like the Rift is only going to put you in the place of an actual character in the game, so when you turn your head, things will actually move. This way you don’t feel like you’re just staring at a screen. At the moment, this is only a Kickstarter project, but it has received backing from several higher ups in the gaming world. Currently this is still in the development stages, but if you are a developer and want to be a part of helping it make it consumer-ready, you can get the developer’s kit for $300.
