Hmm…went out to a press bash last night, launching the new Series 60 Nokia E range of business phones. Two things. First, go and see Wallace & Gromit’s Curse of the Were Rabbit if you get the chance. It’s excellent (and I’m not particularly an Aardman fan, didn’t really like the chicken thing). Second, the E61 looks like a very neat handset indeed. Played with an early build model for a while, and it was really interesting surfing on a half decent screen using WiFi.
They need to sort out a decent browser though, as their BrowserNG product wasn’t really up to formatting the content too well. But it was great to actually get a snappy response to a request for a website. A revelation in fact! The other interesting thing is the fact that they’ve managed to cram a huge amount of functionality (including hot swap SD cards, Blackberry push email functionality, a decent – ie usable – QWERTY thumb pad and some very cool comms things like push to talk and inbuilt SIP VoIP support) into a very slim form factor. It’s actually pocket friendly. One to watch, methinks. Due out early next year.
