Ornilux Bird Protection Glass – Makes windows visible to our flying friends

Ornilux Bird Protection Glass 3

Millions of birds probably die each year by flying into glass windows. Birds can’t see glass – they see reflections and end up slamming into it. Now German company Arnold Glas has created a new glass that’s visible to our winged friends but transparent to the human eye. Ornilux Bird Protection Glass is glass with a patterned UV reflective coating that makes it visible to birds but won’t obstruct the view.

An updated version of an earlier product, this insulating glass with its criss-cross pattern was tested at the Max-Planck-Institute for Ornithology at the Ornithological Station in Radolfzell, Germany. The results were up to a 75% reduction in bird strikes when compared to that of a standard double glazing glass. This glass has won several prestigious awards for industry innovation and for being “animal friendly”. It seems birds could have a fighting chance again against all those glass-walled skyscrapers.

Knowing that birds possess the ability to see light in the ultraviolet spectrum, ARNOLD GLAS has developed ORNILUX Bird Protection Glass. The glass has a patterned UV reflective coating making it visible to birds while maintaining transparency to the human eye.
