Ozone Hole Smaller than Normal – smallest it has been in thirty years

We’ve been hearing about the hole in the ozone layer since the 80s. Man made chemicals caused it and there was a substantial push for those chemicals to be taken out of production. Which is great. The hole this year is the smallest it’s been in the thirty years! But it has nothing to do with human effort.

Ozone is comprised of three oxygen atoms and is what keeps ultraviolet radiation off of our precious bodies. It’s sort of important. It’s always there but pollution causes a loss to this precious layer leaving us unprotected. There’s a constant hole over the Antarctic.

Said hole changes in size from year to year but this year it has been the smallest and was likely caused in part by a warming event that took place. This was not, at this time, thought to be climate change and could be a one off event. More study on the matter needs to be conducted.
