We don’t really have much use for wearing chainmail anymore. Long ago it protected great warriors against oncoming attacks, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Today, this sort of protection is usually only worn for reenactments and LARPing. It has an attractive property to it though, and could be made as a jewelry of sorts. What about making it into a pair of shoes?
The PaleoBarefoot line is made up of minimalist shoes that will give you protection from a bygone age. Stainless steel mesh has been crafted so that it can be worn as foot coverings, and will give you a barrier against any rough terrain you may encounter. On top of that, they’ll also be sufficient for water submersion, as there’s no cloth or foam to catch any H2O. These are pretty costly things, ranging from around $232-260. They say that these will work for going on a run or hike, but I would worry about the rings rubbing your skin raw after a while.
