PaperLater – create your own newspaper from stuff you don’t have time to read online

Every so often we come across something which is completely totally bonkers, almost surreal in concept. Like making plastic suspenders which won’t set off airport security alarms. Really? Anyway now there’s another one.

PaperLater is a new service which takes stuff you like but don’t have time to read online, and converts it to a fully formatted newspaper for delivery to your doormat. So let’s be absolutely clear about this, OK?

An online service, part of the infamous Inter-nets, which is destroying the print magazine and newspaper industries worldwide, is now offering to take all the digital content which is so much more convenient to read on phones, tablets and portable computers, and printing it out on plain paper for delivery to your home or office.

Retro weirdness doesn’t really come more bizarre than this, does it? Maybe one day we’ll all wake up to our digitally delivered news on phones, tick some boxes and get the thing delivered to our office on parchment, or better yet, have a vassal read it to us during our commute on horseback. No wait, that wouldn’t work, where would we park the hot air balloon?

Anyhoo, it’s all jolly clever, and we’re almost positive no trees will be harmed in the making of this very fine product, but in case you’re worried about massive global deforestation if this idea takes off – and why shouldn’t it, eh? – we should point out that it’s only available on private beta in the U.K. at the moment, and you’ll need to pay £4.99 per issue (including delivery) to partake. Wonderful. Paging Mr Dali.

  • Capital idea really and maybe intended for Loo reading? After all there is something creepy about reading off a tablet or phone whilst sitting on the throne. but a paper with all the articles you want to read. quite appropriate and comfy too …brilliant.
Oh! and that remark about saving trees is just dumb. You see the harvesting of trees is very healthy for a forest because it’s a renewable resource which must be used so that it can renew. Makes for a better forest which makes more O2 for us which makes for a better Planet
luv red ferret btw and read it every day

    • Heh, taking paper into the loo? Shirley that’s asking for trouble? :)
