Payleven – accept credit cards anywhere with your mobile phone

Do you run a small business? Wish you could make life easier by accepting credit cards, but don’t want all the hassle of the machines and procedures? Well there’s a new product which actually could make it all so simple.

Payleven is a Bluetooth chip and PIN reader dongle which connects to your phone through Bluetooth to let you accept standard credit and debit cards. The best thing is it’s all pay as you go, there’s no monthly fees, just a flat 2.75% per transaction. And you’re not locked into a contract, nor do you need any minimum revenue numbers. Pretty cool.

The service is international, spanning most of Western Europe, as well as Brazil and the U.K., and there are apps for both Apple and Android phones. The app lets you set up your particular products in a database, and helps you track your transactions and even generate receipts for sales.

It’s not the only service of its type on the market of course, and Paypal Here has an offering for example which offers much of the same kind of flexibility. The advantage Paypal Here has is the fact that it also accepts Paypal payments and the new cashless service using a phone only. But the reader is twice the price.

It’s probably important to remember that all these mobile electronic card payment systems are in their early days, so you should expect a few glitches as the services work out the kinks, but for small businesses, this kind of facility to accept cashless payments could be a real boon, and for some traders even a game changer. For one thing, you’re cutting out the delay involved in generating invoices at the point of sale, which can speed up payments by weeks.
