Mostly outdated technology ends up in a landfill but sometimes they become cool art installations with the help of a little bit of modern technology. In this case, an old payphone became a boombox that will play some of the hottest jams from the 90s because life is wonderful that way.
This is a project from Fuzzy Wobble. He purchased the payphone and outfitted it with an Arduino Mega processor and turned it into a dance party. The phone has a sensor so when you walk past it, it rings. Of course everyone knows what to do when a phone rings, you answer it!
Once you pick it up, the machine tells you how to use it, you can pick your music by dialing certain numbers from the attached phonebook. This is a really fun little project and it would be awesome to see these pop up everywhere but it’s just single payphone boombox for now. You can watch the video below to see it in action.
