PenguinWatch 2.0 – help science by looking at penguin pictures

Penguin Watch

Crowdsourcing is the go to these days for project funding, getting answers and scientific research. It’s true, science needs the help of the general public. Even if you’re not much of a scientist, you too can help out by simply looking at pictures. Added bonus: they’re adorable penguins. Help science out and contribute to PenguinWatch 2.0.

It may seem counter-productive to involve laymen in heavy science but in this case, it’s actually really helpful because you don’t need any special background for this job. All you need to do is look at pictures and identify some basic data. A child can do this.

Thanks to technology, scientist have the capability to collect data from over 100 sites in the artic and they can’t sort through all the pictures on their own. You can help them by looking at some photos and identifying adults, chicks, and/or eggs in the photos. It’s that simple. You’re helping science and getting to look at some potentially adorable photos. Check out the website to get started.
